I recently painted the ceiling white (1 coat) and cannot find any evidence of a leak.Noticed a yellow stain on ceiling in kitchen. Could this just be an old stain that came through the paint ?

Are you sure there is no leak? If not, try spraying on Kilz, it's a sealant and will not be noticed. At your home center.
