How do i get paint stains out of my brown cargo pants?

Paint thinner will only work on wet oil based paint, not dry or latex paint. I would go to the home center and go to the paint department and by some of the items like Goo Gone and others that claim to remove dried paint and try them. Soaking in TSP, sold at home center, it is an industrial cleaner, may get it out but it may hurt the pants too.How do i get paint stains out of my brown cargo pants?
If the paint is dry attempt to pick it off with a very sharp thin blade knife. If it is wet still soak it in warm water not cold then apply a paste of oxy and scrub. It may take several times to get the paint out. If a stain is left, but no paint try washing in washing machine in cold water with a shout color catcher and detergent. How do i get paint stains out of my brown cargo pants?

How do you remove wall paint stains on metallic painted car?

A clay bar is one of the best things to use. If the paint is water based and is a drip wet the area and use a finger nail to peel it up. If the paint is oil based the use wd40 to remove or you can buy a solvent from an auto body supply place such as 3M adhesive remover and that will do the job. Just remember to wash and wax the car afterwardHow do you remove wall paint stains on metallic painted car?
I don't know about car enamel, but it's pretty tough stuff because it's baked on. I had some painters splash latex wall paint on my brand new cabinets and I got it off with soap and water and one of those soft plastic dish scrubbers. Basically I just sort of ';sanded'; it off with the plastic scrubber. It did take a little pressure, but in the end, it didn't dammage the cabinets. I think this approach would work on a car. You could try it on a less noticable area fist to see if it scratched the car's paint.

I don't know what you would do if it was oil-based paint.

Good Luck. How do you remove wall paint stains on metallic painted car?
A Clay Bar is good for paint overspray. You can buy a ';Mothers'; clay bar kit at any auto parts store. Also body shop supply stores has an assortmant of clay types. The clay bar is soft and like puddy. You will spray a soapy water or something and rub the clay bar across the car's paint. The clay bar will shear the higher paint off the car and the old paint will mostly end up in the clay bar.

Can i paint or stain laminated kitchen cabinets?

Before starting any sanding, be sure you know what type of laminate you are dealing with.

You are best off by washing with a strong solution of TSP (available at any paint store), then applying a primer such as BIN, which is made for, among other things, priming ';slick'; surfaces; such as masonite and glossy oil base or latex paint. One or two coats of primer should suffice. Do not try to tint the BIN, as it has a shellac base, and a lot of tints won’t mix well with it. If you want to try to tint the primer a little, try KILZ II, it has a latex base.

Be sure you use a high quality paint, with at least a semi-gloss finish.

It may be possible to stain the cabinets with a “gel” type stain, but I don’t think you’ll get the results you want. Can i paint or stain laminated kitchen cabinets?
Your cabinets are probably melamine, which can be painted after cleaning with a TSP solution. Then using an oil based paint and a foam roller. Your hardware store will carry TSP and an oil based melamine paint especially formulated for painting melamine material.

The difference in appearance of your cabinets will make you glad you went through the effort. Can i paint or stain laminated kitchen cabinets?
You can paint them, but I doubt they would take a stain. You must lightly sand the surface so that the paint will stick, however. It may require 2 coats. You should also remove the cabinets to paint them.
you can lightly sand, prime, and then paint these cabinets. i would use 120 grit sandpaper. for best result's, i would use an oil-based primer and paint from any local hardware store.
to paint them you have to first scuff them with light sand paper.to stain them is a four step process and unless you are a pro they don't come out a good as the seller tells you .better off to sand lightly and paint them
you can paint, but not stain laminate its a plastic

Should I paint or stain new pergola?

I live in the Chicago land area, and want my pergola white. It is treated pine, and has weathered over the summer and winter. what would be the best to use, stain or paint? I hope to hear from someone that is either paint smart or works with paints that can give me some knowledgeable advice. ThanksShould I paint or stain new pergola?
I would paint it, since white stain is not going to hold up to the weather. Prime it with an oil based primer, such as Benjamin Moore Fresh Start alkyd. Follow that up with 2 coats of Alkyd Low Lustre Metal and Wood Enamel. It will look great, and will stand up to Chicago winters. Hope this helps.

http://www.benjaminmoore.com/bmpsweb/por鈥?/a>Should I paint or stain new pergola?
I would assume, that since it has been painted, that it was primed already.

I would use Behr Nano-guard ext. paint, water base, sold at Home Depot.

It has it's own primer in the paint and is totally awesome.

I work with paint everyday, at Home Depot. And have sold that brand of paint, to tons of customers and they do nothing but brag about the coverage and that fact that it holds up very well.

Also, sense there are about 700 shades of white, we have competitive colors from all other companies.

But Behr is known for their pure white, premixed, right off the shelf. If that's the shade you desire.

Be sure to use a medium sheen for mildew and mold, such as satin or semi gloss!

P.S. Behr is medium priced compared to the high dollar Benjamin-Moore or Sherman Williams. But as good or better as the contractors tell me.

Hope that helped you out!
depends on the look you're going for. if it is weathered and you want a more seaside, beachie look then i would stain it. if you want a smooth and solid suburbia look then paint it. one bit of advice, if you stain it first and don't like it you can still paint it, but if you paint it first and wish you would have stained it, you can't. good luck
Use a 100% acrylic latex primer then 2 top coats of 100% acrylic exterior Latex paint. DO NOT USE OILBASED PRIMER

What can I use to get year old paint off stairs? Also. what stain products work best?

You're going to have to approach this as any other wood stripping project. Get paint stripper and make sure to get in between the seams good. When the paint has been removed, use a fine grade steel wool to ';sand'; the wood. Wash down area to be stained really well to remove any paint particles, etc., as this WILL show up in your finished project. MinWax has some good products on the market and I have used them several times, although I am more pleased with Cabot stains. Good luck! What can I use to get year old paint off stairs? I've never used it, but I've heard that Goof Off is great on paint. It's cheap to buy at your local hardware store -- try it somewhere inconspicuous first to make sure it doesn't mess up your floor or carpet. What can I use to get year old paint off stairs? Also. what stain products work best?
If paint is on the carpet I'm not sure. If it is wood there's a product called Krud Killer which is very good.

As far as the best stain I endorse Minwax. It goes on very well and you can get the poly mixed with it.

Painting Sidewalk? Concrete paint? Acid wash? Stain? High traffic?

What's a good way to paint/stain/ or any way to rejuvenate the sidewalk? It's not city busy traffic but like little small town strip kind of traffic.

I was hoping we can paint the sidewalk to make it look fresher. Is there a good way? Thanks for any help.Painting Sidewalk? Concrete paint? Acid wash? Stain? High traffic?
Hello, You want to clean the concrete with TSP (Tri sodium Phosphate) and a stiff bristle brush. Any dirt left on the surface and you willl have poor paint adhesion. After which I would acid wash with a 1 to 4 solution of pool acid. 1 part pool acid to 4 parts water (apply this with the stiff bristle brush on a broom handle also). After which you need to rinse off with clean water to neutelize the acid. Let it dry completely. You can go to a paint store such as Pittsburgh paint or Sherwin williams and they will reccommend an exterior concrete stain for your project. I would not waste my time at Home Depot or the other home improvement stores. You want to go to a professional paint store for a good product and expert advise. TSP and Acid are fairly cheap. You want to spend a little extra on the paint (stain) and get a good quality product. I have done a couple of concrete surfaces with 1 part exterior flat paint to four gallons water repellent with good adhesion and wear quality. Good luck TerryPainting Sidewalk? Concrete paint? Acid wash? Stain? High traffic?
Is this city property? Because you can't fix or paint city property. If it isn't then Home Depot has new materials that you can use to refinish your existing concrete without pulling up the old and pouring new. They work really well but you have to have the knowledge and experience to use them. They also have concrete paint and stain. So if you want to resurface and then paint or stain. Or if you just want to paint or stain your existing concrete to rejuvenate it. These things are not real expensive either compared to pouring a new walk.

    Good luck

Anyone have any ideas on how to get paint stained skin clean?

My boyfriend is in the military station in Kosovo. I guess they don't make non-toxic finger paint over there... He was finger painting with a little girl in an orphanage and now he has purple stains on his face, hands and arms lol... Any ideas on how to get it off?Anyone have any ideas on how to get paint stained skin clean?
Try some bleach...or...go to an art supply store and buy special hand soap for artists. Its specially formulated to remove paint and stains from skin. I'm a painter and I use this soap that is excellent...';The Masters'; Hand Soap...original B%26amp; J. The label says is comes from a place called G.P.C. Inc., Box 5311, Redwood City, CA

goof-off. not near the eyes though..
I've used a few things to get stains off my skin... GooGone and lemon juice or vinegar. Depending on the type of paint, any of these things may work. Remember vinegar works on everything!
is there no paint thinner around?
If it's oil, turpentine or mineral spirits. Other than that, time is the only thing that will get rid of it as the skin grows and replaces itself, those layers where the actual stain is will be gone in a few weeks. Not much else to do.
Fast Orange hand cleaner or GoJo may help. If he can't find any, have him go see the mechanics or other ';grease monkey'; type guys. They may have some.

How can I remove neon body paint stains from my white dress?

It was the first time in wearing it to a party, and someone thought it would be funny to cover me in neon pink body paint. The dress is made out of 100% viscose. would I be able to get the stains out from household bleach or something?

Thanks! :)How can I remove neon body paint stains from my white dress?
use bleachHow can I remove neon body paint stains from my white dress?
if it's made from viscose it's dry clean only. if you try washing it could shrink and warp. water does this to viscose. i would take it to your dry cleaners. if the paint is dry and flaky, you could try using a very dry hard sponge to rub it off. do a test spot first to make sure you won't damage the fabric. there is a product out there called ';miss oops'; it's a special sponge, they sell it at david's bridal for $12 that works wonders on dry stains like deodorant and makeup, if this sounds like that kind of stain it will work wonders getting this sort of thing out.

Is there a way to clean paint stains from shoes?

I spilled a bucket full of paint on my shoes. It was the kind to paint walls and houses. But I cant get them offIs there a way to clean paint stains from shoes?
    Try Oxysport from finishline

Unless your shoes are leather or suedeIs there a way to clean paint stains from shoes?
If your shoes are made of leather, put them in the freezer for a few hours and then put pressure on the stain, the paint should crack and peel off semi-easy.

If they are made of cloth, the only way to take the paint off is to scrape it off,in a pinch you could paint the rest of the shoes so you have a matched pair.

One note to the paint contractor above, normal people do not paint walls in their $300.00 dress shoes.
    Jason,

I have been a paint contractor for many years. Every time I get paint on an article of clothing I am certain I can get it (the paint) out. Believe me on this. The ability to remove the paint is inversely related to the price of the article. If they are 10.95 dollar tree shoes the paint will come out like a dream but, if the shoes are 300.00 dress shoes....it ain't comming out.

You might try isopropyl alcohol or a strong ammonia cleaner.

If you have comprehensive coverage insurance on your vehicle you may be able to have your paint job redone. Usually there is a $300 deductible to pay, but if it's not resolvable any other way - it is at least an option for you to consider. Check your policy %26amp; with your body shop guy.
the sap lifted the clear coat on your paint...the only way to fix it, is to have a touch up job or a whole new paint job on the car...(some cities have superb touch up painters...you can't tell it's been touched up...see a dealer...they know the best ones.)

When I was a young boy growing up in Africa I suffered similar problems (I enjoyed painting on large rocks and in caves).

In my tribe we used human feces for a host of purposes due to our scarce environment. We used it for toothpaste, sunscreen, fire fuel, facial lotion, and as a detergent.

Get 1 and 1/2 cups of your own feces (solid preferably), mix them in water and a generic hand-soap, and soak your shirt! The paint stains will come right out! (You will have a stinky shirt though). What is the best way to get oil paint stains out of your shirt?
Don't wear anything you don't want to get oil paint on while you're painting... I have many outfits that have paint stains on them before I realized this.

If you catch it right when it happens, dry putting a little bit of turpentine on in and see if you can get it out and wash it later - otherwise get used to looking artsy!!!
You work in an Art Dept and don't toss on a cover-up?

Prevention logic aside-- your best bet (and this is no guarantee) when dealing wiht an oil/wax based stain is to pre-treat it with dish soap (liquid) directly, then wash it (alone). Again, no promises-- but dish soap is designed to ';cut greae'; adn works great on lipstick stains anyway! :) When I was in Art School, we just made it a point not to wear anything we didn't want ruined. :)
I sat in red oil paint with white cotton shorts once and my prof gave me ';Kiss-off'; it took me a while in the bathroom but I finally got it off (it was a tad bit pink...but pretty successful if you ask me!)...there was a lot so Kiss-off should work better for smaller stains. It looks like a glue stick and is meant to get lipstick out.
Either throw it out! (After using the same shirt for a thousand days) OR use mineral spirits...(hardware store) when the stains are fresh! SO NOT WASH THIS in a machine....use your hands and soap and water after the mineral spirits treatment! NO mechanical wash! The best idea is to use an over=sized shirt from the Thrift Shop!!! Oils are flammable like you can't believe! Good luck and paint Free!!!!!
You don't. They're there forever I'm afraid. No matter what anyone NEVER EVER use mineral spirits to get paint out, it can ignite in your washer or dryer, and it can burn your skin. Trust me, I'm well aware of what happens with paint stains :)
Klean Strip makes a product called Paint Clean-up. It's great stuff. I'm not an oil painter but I use 1-shot sign painters enamel. It's oil based, and Paint Clean-up works great on that. You can get a quart of it at Lowe's or Home Depot for about five bucks.

Buying a paint/stain air sprayer, which one is better? Air compressor type or electric type. Pros/cons of each?

Wood treatments and stains electric are much cheaper and work fine.Buying a paint/stain air sprayer, which one is better? Air compressor type or electric type. Pros/cons of each?
The best for house painting are the HVLP (High volume low pressure) dedicated sprayers. As for electric vs. air, air will give better results, faster with a good compressor. Electric sprayers such as the Wagner power painter are ok for home fixup use, easiert to clean and maintain, cheaper, but will take longer to cover an area and are not as versatile, also they will use more paint. Air sprayers will cover more area faster, especially if you get a siphon feed sprayer that sucks paint right out of the bucket instead of a quart bottle. Air is definitely the way to go painting metal and has more adjustments for painting various coatings.Buying a paint/stain air sprayer, which one is better? Air compressor type or electric type. Pros/cons of each?
Air compressor style is for thin paints and coatings and allows the paint to be atomized, feathered and controlled. It also blows it all over the place which is why paint booths are a good idea. It shoots compressed air through the nozzle and the paint is sucked into the stream and mixed with the air. Used for automotive paints.

For house paints and other thick coatings you need direct pump sprayer that uses a piston pump on the paint to directly force it through the sprayer like a pressure washer. The hand held 'buzz box' sprayers uses an electromagnet and diaphragm or small piston in a similar fashion. It's like squirting a bottle of Windex really fast.

One type of sprayer cannot do both types of paints well.
    Hi,

The professionals we sell to buy airless sprayers, they are designed to spray anything from clear oil sealers to heavy bodied acrylic paints. The only thing they need to change is the tip size to accommodate the type of product. On average a piston pump vs a diaphragm will last years even if used on a daily basis. These are the professional models not the Big Box store imitations. $850.00 is an average price for something that will last %26amp; make money for you. Cleaning up %26amp; maintaing is the most important part of making them last.

HVLP sprayers are great for fine finishing ie cabinetry, molding, furniture etc.
Depends if cost is a factor, electric is cheaper and does a good job if you are using air comp. type you will need to have a moisture handler in the line.
Depends on usage - what you are painting.

Fences etc etc - Electric ones are fine
    Air compressor

Compressed air paint sprayers can save money, offer flexibility, and decrease pollution by using air, rather than aerosol propellants to spray your paint. This technique requires an investment, but for frequent maintenance or shop use, the cost can be well worth it. The unit o tused iis known as a LVLP(low volume, low pressure) sprayer, which applies paint at a lower rate, decreasing airborn paritculates, while applying less paint on each pass.

Spray painting is far more efficient than other methods in certain instances, such as covering large areas with the same color or painting intricate surfaces such as furniture or grillwork, where other tools won't reach all surfaces. It requires some practice in order to handle the equipment and get an even paint covering.

Spray equipment has been available to homeowners for many years, but airless sprayers offer an easier way for do-it-yourselfers to spray paint. Airless sprayers eject paint at high pressure and must be handled carefully to avoid possible injury. An electric airless paint system consists of a paint container, high-pressure pump, motor, handle, and housing and pressure regulator. Extension nozzles, longer suction tubes, extra nozzles and viscosity measuring cup are optional accessories.

Important points to remember in using an airless sprayer, as with other types of sprayers, are proper paint consistency, pressure and tip selection.

Choice of spraying tip depends on paint consistency, but generally the thinner the paint, the smaller the tip needed.

Paint consistency also governs pump pressure. Thinner materials such as stains, lacquers, enamels and sealers require less pressure than heavier materials such as house and wall paint.

Paints formulated for brush or roller application may be too thick for spraying. They should be tested and thinned if necessary.

Other types of spraying equipment have several operational differences.

A suction gun has a vent hole in the cover of the paint cap. A stream of compressed air creates a vacuum, allowing atmospheric pressure to force material from the container to the spray-head. These guns usually are limited to quart-sized containers or smaller and are used where many color changes are necessary.

In a pressure-fed system, the material is force fed to the gun when large amounts of the same color are being used, when materials are too heavy to be siphoned from a cap or container by suction, or when fast application is required.

Non-bleeder sprayers cannot release air until the trigger is pulled. These are used when air is supplied from a tank or from a compressor having pressure control.

A bleeder gun releases air at all times, thus preventing the pressure from building up to a point of popping the safety valve.

Some paint sprayers can be adapted to other uses with proper accessories. For example, an air-gun attachment blows dust from objects to prepare the surface for painting; an adjustable pressure-relief valve regulates maximum air pressure on air guns; an inflater attachment converts the sprayer into a pump to inflate toys, tires, etc.

Another type of applicator in this category is a rotary-disc airless paint sprayer. An auger pump pulls paint from a container mounted under the electrically powered spraying head into a high-speed spinning disc. Centrifugal force from the spinning disc causes the paint to flow through a variable gate opening.

The gate control regulates size of paint swath and eliminates nozzles and high-pressure injection hazards.

High-volume, low-pressure paint sprayers reduce the amount of over-spray typically caused by airless sprayers and conventional, air-powered spray guns. More paint reaches the surface and painters save time and money on paint, drop cloths and masking.

What type of paint is it? Acrylic based paints could possibly peel off it the paint dried on whatever spot until you noticed it. (This is more so for house paints...) Artists acrylic is water based so you might actually be able to scrub most of it out but it really depends on the color. Certain colors WON'T come out. Now oil based paints...I would try something like paint thinner...but it might be a little harsh on your shirt...and considering I am not sure what kind of fabric, of there is anything screen printed on...then I can't promise you that won't also ruin your shirt. If it's just cotton then give it a shot - although I will warn you it is stinky. Read the label first. Um what else...definitely DON'T just the thinner on any type of screened on image...it will dissolve it as well, most likely.

    My best advice is A) DON'T wear your fav. shirt while painting! : ) and B) When you figure out what type of paint it was, what fabric your shirt is...then google something along the lines of ';How do I remove an _____ paint stain from a _____ (%26lt;type of fabric) shirt?';

(Don't write what was in the parenthesis!) Good luck...but some colors just won't come out. Oh and whenever you are done was the shirt, of course. Sometimes just plain old washing will work. USE COLD WATER! Hot water generally sets in stains!
scrub it with soap let it soak in the sink. then put it in the washing machine and use spray and wash.

Dripping paint on your clothes or on other fabrics doesn't have to ruin the items. Most paint stains can be removed from clothes and other items such as drapes, blankets, and upholstery. Here is how you can remove paint stains that are both oil-based and water-based.

    Step 1

Read the care label that it attached to the clothing item or garment. In some cases the best way to remove the paint stain may not be best for the certain item. Use your discretion and err on the side of caution when using these methods to remove paint stains.

    Step 2

To remove a paint stain that is oil based, follow these instructions:

Scrape off as much of the paint stain as you can. Sponge on some paint thinner and blot the paint stain with a paper towel. Repeat this several times until most of the stain has come out and you have blotted up as much of the paint as you can. Rub liquid detergent on the paint stain while the fabric is still wet with the paint thinner. Hand wash the item in hot water and allow it to hang to dry.

    Step 3

To remove paint stains that are water-based follow these instructions: Don't allow the paint stain to dry. Rinse the fabric well with warm water. Apply an enzyme presoak stain remover with warm water. Rinse the fabric off again with warm water. Hand wash the fabric as you normally would would with a mild detergent. Allow the item to hang to dry.How to remove airbrush paint stains from clothing?

I got some white paint on a black polo, and it didn't come out in the wash. Anyone know how to get the paint out? It's an expensive shirt. How to get paint stains out of clothes?
If you already put it in the dryer it will be hard to impossible to get out. If you have only washed it but not dried it, the type of paint might matter if it is latex or acrylic based... but here are some ideas I have heard/used in the past...

#1 try to keep it wet if it hasn't dried out yet...

    latex:

make a solution of dish soap and dishwasher detergent (test small spot first!!) and work it into the stain, rinse, keep repeating until stain is gone

goo gone or OOPS! are commercial products that might help

if cotton or polyester try oven cleaner, let it set 15 to 30 mins then rinse rinse rinse

Oil based:whatever thinner is recommended by the manufacturer

    turpentine (when all else fails)

work from the back of the stain... cover the area you are working!!

once stain is removed, saturate with laundry detergent, soak in hottest water for that fabric and soak overnight, scrub and launder

1/2 and 1/2 water and ammonia

soak in milk or hot vinegarHow to get paint stains out of clothes?
Water down some gas in spray bottle.

Once it out wash with extra soap and softner
Please use thinner for paint. It will do wonders.

You need to use plastic drop cloths for paint protection. Newspaper or cloth won't prevent the paint spills from soaking through to the carpet. Use the dining room or any other uncarpeted area to protect from crayons or water colors.
Paint your best bet is drop clothes. Sorry unless you are a miracle worker dry paint stains will not come out of carpet.

    Good luck

I want to make sure I strip my deck correctly, any suggestions? Currently their is a painted stain on the dec

we need to strip, sand, and make sure everything is even before reapplying paint. Here is my plan.

I powerwashed last night to remove dirt. I am going to apply the stripper, allow it to soak in for about an hour, scrub and powerwash off, then sand. Is that pretty much right? Any suggestions on the best way to do this would be great.I want to make sure I strip my deck correctly, any suggestions? Currently their is a painted stain on the dec
Yes, that should be fine. I don't usually use the stripper when I do it, but sounds like a good thing. Good Luck.I want to make sure I strip my deck correctly, any suggestions? Currently their is a painted stain on the dec
i used Sherwin Williams 3 step system... stain sealer remover, revive, and their deck wash. i turn out amazing
The stain will probably respond much better to the sanding than to the stripper. Give it a try though. You may find that a good bit will come off with the first step, thus reducing the need for alot of sanding.
Paint strip it and sand it ,stain sand it.

  • I want to paint stained wood trim white, but windows are also stained-how much, if any, of window do I paint?

The trim in my Cape Cod house's living room is three different stain shades, one for bay window, another for fireplace and another for door, and ceiling/floor trim. The windows are stained wooden frame. Can I paint the trim without painting the window casings? Do I have to paint the trim on the rest of the first floor (bedrooms)? Bathroom trim is already painted. Upstairs MBR trim is painted (but not window casings). I want to sell the house. Should I just leave the stain shades alone? The fireplace was just paint-stripped and refinished and is beautiful--it just doesn't match the other trim. Can I paint other trim and leave fireplace?

    Any advice?

Thanks!I want to paint stained wood trim white, but windows are also stained-how much, if any, of window do I paint?
My house is 50 years old and has that ugly blondish stained woodwork, trim, etc. The former owners had new Pella windows w/ mini blinds inside put in. The outside is white vinyl, but the inside is that hideous stain to match the ugly woodwork. They bay window is just like the others and the seat of the window is stained. When we bought the house, my hubby painted all the rooms and basement, but didn't do the woodwork. He said it is a lot of work to paint those nice windows.... Men love wood, women painted. If people fall in love with the house, it will not matter.

I would say paint the woodwork; but so many people like the stained woodwork. If you are selling, I would leave it like it is. It is easier for them to paint the woodwork than remove the paint and restain.

If people want it painted they can do it. Don't worry that the mantle doesn't match.I want to paint stained wood trim white, but windows are also stained-how much, if any, of window do I paint?
just remember you can only stain wood darker to make it lighter it requires a wood bleach so i think the trim ceiling and floor plus the door ought to match the fire place mantle irrelevant and try to keep windows all same shade but don't have to match the rest just each other
If you already have some that are painted one way, I would continue with that, rather than mix and match. As least do the one floor all the same.

I also have a problem with that, all of my doors, casings, etc are walnut stained and I would love to do them in off white.

But just thinking about it makes me sick. Do I leave the doors walnut and only paint the casings?? I just do not know for sure.

Look through some decorating magazines and see if you get any good ideas.
Complete the interior to match the fire place, or make the rest of the interior match, and have the fireplace stand out. Either way, the trim should all match for best appeal in this hard buyers market.

You want people to fall in love with the room, and not feel that something is off.

Men seem to love wood, and woman loves paint. You have to decide as we cant see your house.
Personally, I wouldn't paint over the natural wood. I have wood trim in my house that the previous owners painted white. I hate that they did that. Now I am undergoing the arduous task of stripping %26amp; sanding to restore the wood trim.

soap and water and elbow grease

This is easy if its fresh warm water and hand soap copious amounts of water soap well then using a square edged tray squeegee the water off ......... done this for a 5ltr of Matt paint and didn't have to replace the carpet and this was in military accommodation

How can you remove wood stain and varnish easly without paint stripper?

I have done this on kitchen cabinet doors made from particle board and birch veneer. It was not easy nor fast, but they turned out beautiful, and yes, I was able to get 90% of the stain out.

First I used a water-based stripper. Put it on thickly. This type of stripper has to sit for longer than chemical based ones, so try not to be impatient--maybe go cut the grass. Remove the **** with a plastic putty knife. Wipe off the rest with paper towels. Put another coat of stripper on and do the same thing. After the 2nd coat comes off, I scrubbed the doors down with a water and bleach solution with double-ought steel wool. Don't soak them, just wash like you were wiping off your counter. (you cannot use this method on oak!!! The tannins in the wood will turn black)

Second, I let the doors dry for about 24 hours. Then I started hand sanding with 120 grit, 180 grit, 220 grit, and last was 320 grit. Sometimes you have to sand a little harder in areas where the grain soaked up more of the original stain so you can get an even look.

I ended up with beautiful doors. The color was so pretty that I simply finished them off with four coats of water-based clear finish. (4 coats because they're in a kitchen)

I know you asked for an easy way, but there really isn't one if you want the item to look nice. How can you remove wood stain and varnish easly without paint stripper?
Stain soaks into the wood and is very hard to remove. Paint stripper wont do it. The only way to remove stain is to sand the wood down to below the stain. How can you remove wood stain and varnish easly without paint stripper?

Can I stain/paint oak cabinets? Need suggestions techniques on painting oak kitchen cabinets.?

I just bought a house. The kitchen cabinets are oak with regular light brown stain(maybe the wood is just sealed or something) where you can see the grain. I like more of a contemporary look...darker woods/cherry like colors on wood. My kitchen has black laminate countertops, black appliances, stainless-looking refrigerator, stainless sink, tan-ish tile backsplash and a dark looking brown tiles on the floor. I can't change the tiles and counters at this time. I was thinking changing the cabinet colors will help me ';deal'; with what i have. Can I re-do the oak cabinets to a darker stain/color? What steps do I need to take to make this happen? Can you attached pictures if you have done this before? Can I stain/paint oak cabinets? Need suggestions techniques on painting oak kitchen cabinets.?
Oak is an open grain wood. Unless the grain was filled in prior to staining and varnishing, that open grain should still be apparent when you look at the surface at an angle.

If this is true, one option that is open to you is to clean the cabinets well with warm water and soap. The apply a coat of gel stain.

Gel stain is rather thick and will tend to fill in the open gain in the wood.It doesn't soak into the wood but rather sits on top kind of like shoe polish on your shoes. Wipe the excess stain off and when dry, apply a coat of satin varnish. You will in effect have a darken looking wood finish.

If you are interested, try a spot on the lower back of one of you lower cabinet doors to see how well it works for you and if you like the look.

This method is not unlike putting a glaze over a painted surface to give it an antique look. Can I stain/paint oak cabinets? Need suggestions techniques on painting oak kitchen cabinets.?

If you have stained wood, your best bet is to paint them because the stain will have sunk into the grain and you will never get it all up to restain it.

I had the same issue in my previous home with oak cabinets. I didn't like the grain and thought it clashed with the countertops. I primed then painted over them with a tan textured paint. It looked much nicer, went on really thick, and the texture never got dirty. Sorry I don't have any pictures of it - sold the house in 2005.

To prime the cabinets sand them well until the gloss is gone, clean all dirt and dust off and use an oil based primer (helps paint stick better).

Then paint the dark color of your choice. Sounds like your cabinets would look great if you painted over with a nice chocolate color. If you pick the right color, most people will not notice that it's paint and not a dark stain.

Add some new hardware fixtures and your kitchen will look completely different.

To paint the cabinets you will need to take the cabinet doors off the hinges and remove all hardware. I did it myseld in my spare time and it took me a few weeks to get it all done, but was much cheaper than getting all new cabinets.
Food for thought rather than an answer if you expect to duplicate a good ';factory'; finish.......

Kitchen cabinets generally have a sprayed on factory finish that is tinted to even out variations in the color of the wood (esp oak ) %26amp; the wood is not stained at all.

Look around for chipped or worn areas....if any bare wood is lighter than the rest ...that's what you've got.

Having said that, it is very difficult to color match across a large area like a set of cabinets %26amp; the usual DIY / crafts approach of stripping /sanding/staining/ polyurethane/ bla /bla. will be a disappointment.

Taking all the doors off %26amp; having them done professionally can be pricey.

Then you have the frames %26amp; panels which cannot be removed

    to match up.

Might consider refacing the cabinets w/ the type of wood you like when you are able.

Could be cheaper than refinishing %26amp; on the bright side ,if the cabinets are an older vintage they are better built than most of the newer ones %26amp; refacing can be a smart thing to do.

If you really hate the color %26amp; you are sure you want to try DIY, research color ';washing '; or glazing which does not require stripping but will require a clear finish over it.

Sorry not to be more positive , but there is much more to it than meets the eye,%26amp; once you start there is no going back.

    Hope that helps.

    Best regards.

Is it different for jeans? The washing machine did abosolutely nothing. I'm sad... =(How do you get paint stains out of clothes?
In my experience, either soak the jeans in gasoline or mineral spirits. After the stain soaks out, send it through the wash again to get rid of the smell. However, these days it might be cheaper to buy new jeans. How do you get paint stains out of clothes?
You could use the mineral spirit but they may cause a hole in them. There really is no way to get it out. Next time don't wear clothes you care about. If you do remove the clothes right away without smearing the paint and scrub them in cold water.
tiv is a hand-cleaner that removes resin bonded paints, scrub it in and try it, try using cellulose paint thinners, soak them in a bucket with Ariel for about a week then try again. a lot depends on what type of paint it is.
There is no way to get paint out of clothes. If its like a glob you can scrape that off but the stain of the paint will still be there.Just use these clothes for your messing around piddling cleaning up clothes from now on.
there is a product called ';goof-off'; that you can buy at your hardware store or paint store. it removes latex paint from everything. use a scrub brush and alot of patience. don't be afraid to soak the stains.

How do you get paint stains out of clothes?

I live in Sydney Australia and there is 2 products that can help you and you buy them at the supermarket. I bought mine at Coles

They are in the laundry isle near were you buy fabric dye.

One brand is Dylon Stain Remover and the other brand is Motsenbcker's Lift Off.

Motsenbocker's Lift Off come in a three pack. They are in small white bottles. The number 3 bottle is the one you need to remove the paint and it really works.

Don't heat it or put it in the dryer. Heat will set the stain. Dab on a paint remover that is suitable for the type of paint it is- try Home Depot. Then use Spray n Wash OxiClean to wash out the residue left by the paint remover.
wash it and then dry on heater or something warm
Try turpentine..paint should dissolve in it. Normal water and soap doesnt get it rid of it because paints need water immiscible solvents to dissolve. Paint cannot dissolve in water so you cannot use water - remember, like dissolves like.
Go to Home Depot and get Krud Kutter in the paint aisle. That stuff can remove about anything.

What is the best way to remove paint stains from clothing?

If the paint is on your person rather than your environment, don't worry - acrylic and emulsion paints will come off quite easily if tackled when still fresh and wet, simply with water (cold and warm, respectively) generously sponged into the area and then rinsed and washed as usual. In fact, in the case of emulsion paint, if it is not removed when fresh, it is almost impossible to remove once the paint has dried. For oil-based paints (gloss %26amp; enamel), do the same thing but using white spirit or turpentine instead of water - although use as little as possible to avoid damaging the fabric. What is the best way to remove paint stains from clothing?

AndyI have dried latex enamel paint stains on my carpet anyone have any suggestions on how to get it out?
There is a product called ';Goof OFF'; (no joke). Hardware stores have it. I am a contractor and we have used it many times.
Try Greased Lightning. Do a very small test spot first. Spray the Greased Lightning on and let it sit for a couple minutes. Then take a towel and blot (don't rub). The stain should transfer to the towel. You might have to repeat a couple times to get all of it off.

It worked for a paint stain (Miller latex green) on my bedroom carpet.
I like a product called Mostenbocker's Dried Latex paint remover. They made a formula of some kind that removes every kind of stain known to mankind. This one can be found at the Home Depot and Lowes. I like their products because they don't smell, leave residues to attract dirt and dust causing mystery stains later and they are safe to use around pets. Most of the time I simply spray on the formula and use a terry towel to agitate the stain away. On dried latex, I've had to use a brush then a damp terry towel to remove the stain.
    Steam clean
if they aren't very large (just little spits) you can try cutting them out with scissors.
You could scape it out . or use scissors to cut small amounts of the rug fibers away.
Freeze it with an ice cube it should chip away easily. You can put the ice in a plastic bag if you do not want any water stain from the melted water

Cars - Air by a mile

If you use air make sure its a top feed bumb... this helps with the thick and thin paints as will as stain.

In art class I was airbrushing, spraying the airbrush at the painting 100% but somehow airbrush paint collected on the collar of the top of my sweater and the paint is bright red and my sweater is tan-orange so how would I remove this kind of stain? How to remove airbrush paint stains from clothing?

Moms, what do you do for your kids to protect your carpet from crayons or generic watercolor sets? What do you use to protect your carpet from paint stains?
Thin plastic drop cloths are cheap. As far as the kids, don't allow items they can ruin the carpet with to be used in that room. What do you use to protect your carpet from paint stains?
You need to use plastic drop cloths for paint protection. Newspaper or cloth won't prevent the paint spills from soaking through to the carpet. Use the dining room or any other uncarpeted area to protect from crayons or water colors.
Paint your best bet is drop clothes. Sorry unless you are a miracle worker dry paint stains will not come out of carpet.

As for your kids spray the carpet with scotchguard and get your carpets cleaned regularly
I use old sheets. If I get a really bad spill of paint, I avoid stepping in that area, of course. :)
    Drop cloths when painting.

After opening all the doors, use oil paint thinner on a rag to wipe the oil paint. If it doesn't come up with a swift wipe, you may need to rub it in onto the stained area.

Do not breathe the rag too much, you may get sick from it.

Make sure to run a test on part of a seat that is not visible to check for colorfastness, so you don't end up having a big blur on the seat. How do you get oil paint stains off the seats in a car?
Try using turpentine to get the paint off and then use an upholstery cleaning fluid to clean out the turpentine. Then you might try spraying the car with febreeze to help take away the turpentine smell. Don't use a lot of turpentine...just try small amounts on a cloth to clean the paint off. Be sure to leave the windows and doors of the car open while you clean it and don't breathe in the fumes.
Oil paint will not come out. You may lighten it some with thinner on a rag. But then the car will have that strong chemical smell. It may be time for seat covers.

  • How would I remove enamel paint stains from coloured clothing?

You could try turps (mineral turpentine), I've used it when the paint was still wet, at a guess it would still have an affect on dry paint. You'd have to give it a rub, with a damp cloth with a bit of turps on the cloth. To get rid of the turps smell, put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in the final rinse cycle. How would I remove enamel paint stains from coloured clothing?

if it is gloss paint, try turpentine. If its emulsion and it is dry,

you might as well throw the trousers, as even though emulsion is water based. once it dries on, there is nothing that will remove it. (as I was informed from a paint manufacutrer)How do you get red paint stains out of black polyester trousers?
Try soaking in cold water first , depends on the type of paint. If this fails , rub with a little turps then wash straight away, Don麓t put the trousers in the washing machine ,or the machine will smell of turps and the next load of washing you put in will smell too. Hang them outside in the fresh air . The smell will dissolve in a day or two
if it's anything EXCEPT gloss it will be water based and wash out.

If gloss paint, well by the time you have finished with the chemicals and scrubbing they won't be fit to wear
