Looking for pet friendly paint and stain for wood inside of the cage?

I am remodeling my 4 ft tall chinchilla cage and I want to repaint it and I also need to stain or use a sealant on the wood shelves and I know that my chinchillas will chew on the wood and possibly the metal part of the cage. I want to make sure that whatever I use is not going to hurt or make them ill from chewing on it, so what type is pet friendly for them? a water base paint should be OK


Go to the paint store and ask for the type of paint they use for baby furniture.
